Malawi has a substantial demand for wheat. At present, there are only two players in this field, creating a monopoly. We realized that the public immediately needs another player. We commissioned the wheat mill and got into commercial production from 15 th July, 2013. This is the state-of- the-art, brand new wheat mill, which has a capacity to produce 200 MT of Wheat Flour a day. We believe this will have a significant impact on the wheat flour market in Malawi. The quality of the flour is comparable to the best in the world. The Variants of Flours we offer are as follows:
Perfect Flour (Scones and Mandazi): Perfect Flour is one of the best flours in Africa, as such highly popular among the people in Malawi.
Perfect Flour (for Bread): Most of the bakeries in Malawi prefer to use Perfect flour for baking breads as the quality of the bread is the best when made with Perfect Flour.
Biscuit Flour: HMS Biscuit Flour is used by most of the Biscuit factories in Malawi for making the best quality biscuits.
Maize, rightly called the future grain is of high utilization ratio and has rich nutrition value including its byproduct. We process 50 MT of maize a day, mainly for local consumption. In order to make up for the demand, we have established supply chains with local farmers, thus guaranteeing them an income. In addition, we are recognized suppliers to the World Food Programme and NFRA. These organizations are extremely strict while deciding whom to deal with. Cream of Maize is maize flour which is staple food of Malawi available in 2kg, 5kg, 10 kg, 20kg and 50 kg packs. HMS Maize Flour is in high demand throughout the year.
Maize grits are mainly used for the production of Maize snacks which are very popular in Malawi. Majority of the snack companies use HMS Maize grits.
Malawian Toor Dal is recognized worldwide as having extremely superior quality. We are aware that there is a large global demand and have invested extensively in our plant and machinery to become a premier supplier. At present, we have the capacity to process 20 MT of Dal a day. We have also diversified into other lentils and export to the United Kingdom, USA, Far East Singapore, India and numerous other countries.
We have established sources of supply for paddy. Once purchased, we mill, grade and pack the rice for both local and export consumption. At HMS we believe that the quality of our produce is determined by the quality of machinery that we use. We have resisted the temptation to purchase low-end machinery and have opted to invest in modern and efficient machinery.
Whilst produce has always been the mainstay of HMS, we also realized that we can be vulnerable to the factors such as world prices and weather conditions. In order to ensure that the company is not affected adversely, we decided to diversify into Soap Manufacturing. We have a capacity of 48 MT per day, and we are selling the laundry Soap with our brand name UFULU. We have made a substantial gain in market share in the Southern region within a short span of time. We have started marketing this product in Lilongwe recently. We have massive promotional activities in place; and with the quality and promotions on, we will be a big player in Malawi laundry soap market. We will be launching our laundry soap in the next two months’ time.
